A Short Trip to Jordan

Introduction

Jordan is a very relaxed place, ideally suited to brake the Winter season. I wen there with a bunch of Provia and my Leica R7.

The trip was booked through an independent company Jordan Direct Tour, a Three Star organisation

I would not pretend these are the typical sights, there are from a collection of over 150 slides.

Amman, the capital

Although it is not reputed for its architecture (there are some nice villas, looking more like palaces with the matching Mercedes or Jag or SUV) it’s pleasant and typically a Gulf capital.

There are remains from the Greek and Roman times, well preserved and often rebuilt. The main theatre is used for a Festival of Music yearly.

Up North, Jeerah Ancient City

Jeerah is about 70 to 100Km north of Amman. The trip is rather pleasant as it goes through gardens and orchards. The place itself contains the ramin of an ancient Roman city destroyed by subsequent Earthquakes.

A Bagpipe concert in the ancient theatre is perfect to judge the accoustics. Temples and columns… There are (faint) traces of the old wheels of the pavement.

Mount Nebo and Christianity

Visited by JP II as he could see Jerusalem from this church. Today the church is a museum covered with steel plates. The nearby city, mainly coptic is pleasant and very active.

The road of the Castles

Must we not forget that the place has been inhabited by guys as interested by Jerulasem as by the possibility to create their own Kigdom. In Europe,we later sent these kind of “braves” to a new continent, far. However, the descendants of these arse holes have invaded the Gulf again. They tried to settle to the moon, too bad they did not succeed, they would have been far enough J

The very Famous Petra

Place for which Jordan is known. All visit by foot and it’s a large site. I had the chnce to be guided by Muhammad, an old beduin of a upper family and he offered a treck through the hills. Unfortunately, I am not into sport and suffered wee bit L. But the view from the cliff was worth the 3 hours of climbing.

The Legendary Desert

I spent a night only but it was worth more. A good excuse to come back to Jordan. I had more chances than the tourist as I had a private cab and driver. I asked him to stop in various places to picture great landscapes with those little spring flowers. Just the hotel was a bit cold at night J
